Presents the Letters of Erasmus D. Duncan

Dear Fellow Historian,

Like you I enjoy reading letters that ordinary soldiers wrote to their friends and loved ones during the Civil War. I believe that letter writing brought some peace to the hectic lives of the soldiers. Below are six letters written by one of those soldiers to his sister. I tried to keep the text as close to the actual letters as possible. I made no spelling, punctuation or grammatical correction because I felt it would take away from the originality of the letters. I hope you enjoy them as I have.

Sincerely,

the University of Texas at Austin
