Dear Sister
Your kind letter of
the 28th of Jan came to hand yesterday I received your letter some time
since with the wedding card enclosed. I rejoice to hear that you & and all
the dear friends in old Adams are well, I am well and in fine sprits. My
little family are all well or was a few days since I received two letters
from Sett every week and write her from four to five. I am still in command
of twenty men at Moreau Bridge I have been here now seven weeks today it is
a fine post I have a comfortable little frame building with a good stove in
it Bed looking ??? and in fact all the conveniences any person could ask in
the army. We live well have plenty of fresh meat such as pork chickens and
one evening some of my men went out on a scouting expeditions they captured
three ??? some chickens and when they go out on such business they are not
accompanied with a Com Officer we nust not know such things as as a matter
of course I am very strict with my men (yes in a harn???) Captain Miller
had been moved back to Jefferson with his men. the health of the com is not
very goos at this time some thirty men not able for guard duty and in the
Reg some three hundred and seventy five. If you cannot read this lay it
away until I come up and I will try
I have no war news every thing is quiet in this part of Mo at this time. I
am getting quite anxious for something to do in the line of fighting not
that I wish to kill any person but would like to see how it is done Tell
Father & Mother not to give themselves ant troulbe about me I am right end
up forked end down and calculate to see the end of Rebellion and return
home Family and Friends this has always been impressed on my mind and I do
not doubt it. for one can tell you Dear Sister I indulge in none of the
vices such as card playing Drinking visiting houses of ill fame & which is
so prevalent in the army I am to abstain from every apprearance of evil and
enjoy myself well in so doing.
I cannot write a letter to interest you sister when I have nothing to write
about so you must excuse this poor thing and write me a good letter in
answer to it
My love to you and your Husband all of Fathers Family your Mother in law &
family and kind regards to all inquiring friends if there should be
