Jefferson City Mo Dec 14th 1861
Dear Sister
Your kind letter dated blank came to
hand this evening and in answer I will write youa few lines to let you know
that I am well and our whereabouts. On the evening of the 11th we recieved
marching orders for Jefferson City MO and on next morning we packed our duds
and marched down to St Louis and took the cars for the place where we
arrived at 10 oclock PM, we remained in the cars until next morning then
marched out one mile west of Soma and pitched our tents for the first time
in the field we are very comfortably situated and are blessed with very
fine warm weather. we are looking for marching orders to go farther west
every day so Dear Sister it is out of my power up on the 19th. I am very
sorry indeed but cannot help it you will give my love to all friends while
there and tell them I am thinking of them that evening and if I could only
be there. I would enjoy it very much no doubt. I am still in fine Sprits
but would like to get into a Battle not that I want to kill any person but
to see how it is done the health of our Regiment is good, Now Sister you
ust write to Sett she wrote me that she had not heard from any of you since
I left home she feels very lonesome and encourage her to keep in good
Spirits tell the friends to write to me I will answer all letters
promptly. I have not drawn any of my pay sice I was sworn into the Nr. S
Service there is now due me $2000 well Sis this is written in a hurry with
a pencil you see on my knee (that is almost a rhime I made this time) Well
Sis the next time you write me you will me Mrs. B. You must give me the
particulars of the Weding Supper
