Letter number thirty-four

Memphis, Tn. June 5, 1864, Sunday
Mother, I had the pleasure of receiving your most kind and welcome letter of
May 29th no longer since than last knight. It came much sooner that I
expected an answer but no sooner that I wanted it to come for I like to hear
from home quite often. And it wouldn't hurt my feelings if you would write a
little larger letters than you do. It always looks like you rise the last
half sheet. You must not make fun of my half sheet for that is the full size
of it. Well for today is a very pleasant day indeed. Rather to warm to be
comfortable, but not so warm as a day or two ago. I think that I shall have
to take a walk after dinner up to the park. The park is a delicious place for
convalesants to go to get the fresh air and the cool shade. I go up most
every day and stay from 1 o'clock til 5. Well one Regt has got back to
Vicksburg again. I saw one of the Regt boysyesterday evening. He was on his
way home on furlough. He said the Regt would get their pay at Vicksburg soon.
I sent for my descriptive roll a few days ago. I can get to nurse in the
hospital, but I don't like it very well. I expect I could get a furlough for
30 days if I would go to the convalesant camp. But I don't want a furlough
unless I was very sick for if we get out of the service when the Regt does it
would be foolishness to spend so much money in traveling when our time is out
the 6th of November next. I want to know when you write again if you directed
that letter to Vicksburg the same you do the ones you write now. If you did
it has gone to the Regt and I will get it. My health is much better than it
was when I wrote to you before. I could do light duty if the Doctor would
allow it. Day after tomorrow will be 3 months since I took sick. Write soon
and give me all the city news. What has become of John Chambers that he don't
tend the mill. When I come home I would like to get to be second miller. Has
Theodore Baker gone to California. The last letter I got from him he said he
would start the first of April. Well as dinner is ready I will have to stop
writing for this time. So my best wishes to all. From your son, Francis W.
Kimble
