Cairo June the 30th
Mother, I seat myself to let you know that I am at Cairo yet and am well
today and hope this may find you the same. The report is now that we will go
to Columbus in a day or two. It may be so for we have only 4 companys at
Cairo now.The 58th Ills regt came here this morning. Mother I sent a box this
morning to Mr.Baker. It is payed for. Mr. Baker will have to take it out of
the express office which will be at Stumptown. Mother this letter is what I
call an extra. Mother the news is good from Vicksburg this morning. I think
it will be ours in a few days. Eliza I want to know what you think of our
little fifer and my old bunk mate. Also our style of uniform. Mother the
names of our capt. is Wm.V.Lucas, lst Lieutenant Andrew _? Allen, 2nd Lieut.
Allen E. Holmes. Mother the man that enlisted, Jim Coombs and those boys is
killed. One of my company came in last knight. We left him in the hospital at
St. Louis. No more Write all the news. Francis W. Kimble to Mary A. Kimble
