Had a review in town by Gen. Grant and others. I went on camp gaurde. The Reg went out to support the Pickets.

The Reg- returned about 9 o'clock.
Thursday, 8.
I was relieved this morning being on 48 hours. The Reg- went on picket at 8 o'clock.

October, Saturday, 10, 1863.
The Reg- went on picket again. I am on gaurde at Brigade Headquarters. We got orders to march at six in the morning.
Sunday, 11.
We marched at six for Big Black and arrived there at three o'clock and went into camp in the Woods no tents along.
Monday, 12.
Rained all night.
October, Tuesday, 13, 1863.
We moved in to the 5th Minn infty camp they are out on a scout.
Wednesday, 14.
Some firing in the front.
Thursday, 15.
Rained all night.
October, Friday, 16, 1863.
A report from the front that they have found the Enemy in force.
Saturday, 17.
They are driving the Enemy and taking some prisoners.
Sunday, 18.
The 13th Iowa went up to Meshingers ford.

I was on picket duty. The Expedition returned folowed by the Enemy.
Tuesday, 20.
We received orders to march but they were soon contermanded with orders to move at six o'clock in the morning.
Wednesday, 21.
We moved at the apointed hour for Vicksburg. We arrived there at 1 o'clock.

I was on fatigue duty at the breast works.

Rained all day.

Came of gaurd at 8 o'clock. A very heavy frost last night.

Of duty to day the first for some time.

On fatigue at the breast works. The weather very fair.

On picket gaurde rained all day cleared up during the night.

Rained all day and flooded our camp most drove us out.

On fatigue at the ordinance department the flood went down we expect to move camp to day but had to muster.
