My husband's great-grandfather JAMES NEWTON LEE was born in VA. He served in the Civil War and mustered out at Strawberry Point, IA. I believe he was in the Union Army, and family stories state he fought against his brother in a battle. He lived and raised a family in Des Moines and Newton, IA. I have no further information for him, or about his regiment. Can someone give me some information on how I might obtain details or documentation regarding his service? Any help is surely appreciated. Please email me: [email protected]
