In my own search for information about my great-great grandfather, I have come accross data about Donald McKean. He is listed as Donald McKeen, enlisted in Company "I" of the Second Iowa Volunteers. Enlisted on Sept 28, 1861 (The same Day as My G-G- Grandfather, his name was Jerome Polley. Both were wounded at Fort Donelson on February 15, 1862. Most of the men in Company "I" were from Clinton County and were mustered in at Keokuk. Donald was listed as being wounded in the left knee and considered serious. These two individuals no doubt knew each other as the company was not large, about 100 men. Both were discharged in 1862. Jerome in September after recovery at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis. Discharge date for Donald is not listed. There was no other information on the other brother. I did not have any data on 2nd Cavalry. I have a number of documents acquired from the National Archives that get specific about the wounded at Donelson and also a roster of the Company which I will copy and mail to you if you like. My address: Doug Carr 777 Avenida Pequena Santa Barbara, CA 93111 805-964-5116 Phone 805-692-2751 Fax e-mail: [email protected] Hope this is some help. Kindest regards, Doug Carr p.s. In 1997 I had the opportunity to visit Fort Donelson. It is a little visited Civil War Battlground. The Park Service employees were very helpful in assiting me in locating the almost exact spot in which my G/G Grandfather was wounded. If you have a chance to make such a trip, it will be worth it.
