Yes there were Iowans present but not as a part of a Iowan Regiment. First you have to understand that in 1860 people were very loyal to there home states. When the call came out for volunteers, many new Iowans went back east to join with family & friends. Also some of the regiments that were recruited in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana had Iowans in them. Through research we see that there has been an Iowan in every battle except one (that being the attack on Fort Sumter).Individual Iowans were for the most part very good soldiers. The reason being, excellent work ethics. That comes from working for yourself (farmers & shopkeepers).
