Just starting ageneology search of my family, and have info about a William Folks of ?Plainfield IO who ended up in the 7 Regiment of Wisc. Volunteer that was one of the groups that made up the Iron Brigade. Also written down as Capt. Billy Folks and either he or a William Folks was killed at a Bull Run battle. Can't find any info on the net to back this up, but I'm just starting out. Hope this helps you out.
