I went and looked him up in the seven volume (7000+ pages) set of the "Roster and Record of Iowa Soldiers in the War of the Rebellion" published in 1910. These volumes list each person that served from Iowa alphabetically by company and Regiment. I did find him in the 3rd Iowa Cavalry, Company G. It stated:

Tuttle, George W. (Veteran) Age 34. Residence Van Buren County, Nativity Ohio. Enlisted Aug. 23, 1861. Mustered Aug. 30, 1861. Promoted Eighth Corporal Oct. 3, 1862; Seventh Corporal July 1, 1863; Fourth Corporal Jan. 1, 1864. Re-enlisted and re-mustered Feb. 1, 1864. Promoted Third Corporal Aug. 16, 1864; Second Corporal Dec. 1, 1864; First Corporal Dec. 21, 1864. Mustered out Aug. 9, 1865, Atlanta, Ga.
