Yes there was a 30th Iowa infantry and there was an Alney G. Newman in it. He first joined the 11th Iowa infantry but was discharged for disability. In 1862 he joined the 30th infantry and served three years in it. If you would like to read about the 30th, the Iowa Roster of soldiers gives a unit history in volume three.
