George W. Jewett at age 21 enlisted in the 1st Iowa Cavalry Co.L Sept 2, 1861. He mustered in Sept 12 of that year. He reenlisted and remustered Jan 5, 1864 and was discharged June 26, 1865. Volume 4 of the Iowa Roster of Soldiers has a history of the 1st Cav that is quite interesting.
