Re: 20th Iowa Vols. From: Randy Allen CommentsHi Peter My e-mail is [email protected]. I will be happy to share anything I have on the 20th. Randy Allen Re: 39th Infantry and Parkers Cross RoadsFrom: [email protected] CommentsYou just got lucky! Check out www.39thiowa.com and email JoJo Leto email address [email protected]. JoJo is a reenactor who lives in Winterset, Iowa. I have a copy of the "Roster of Iowa Soldiers, War of the Rebellion Vol. V" that has a history of the 39th. Iowa and a fairly detailed account of the battle. I can send you a copy of the 39th's history. It also contains a roster of all soldiers...including William Thornburg,Company F, age 28 for Winterset, nativity Ohio. I can send you a copy of his listing. I have written a chronology of the 39th's movements during the war. Can send you a copy. I had two GGgrandfathers in the 39th.Iowa...Edward Francis Lee, Company B, and John W. Harvey, Company H. Your GGgrandfather was mustered out along with E.F. Lee in Wash. DC on June 5, 1865. E.F. Lee wrote a poem about the Battle of Parkers Cross Roads, which he sent home to his family. I can send you a handwritten facimile and a typed copy which is far easier to read. I am going to Tennessee next week on business. I found your email while looking for the location of Parkers Cross Roads. It is in Henderson County just north of Interstate 40 on route 22 above Jackson. I plan to drive down there and take some pictures. My Uncle Eddie Lee, who lives in Perry,Iowa has 36 original photos of various men who served in and with the 39th. E. F. Lee collected them and brought them home. They include Gen W. T. Sherman who commanded the Army of the Tennessee (River) that our ancestors served in. I have copies of these pictures and JoJo now has them too....he plans to put them in the web site. There are a number of photos where the identification is known and a number not. Your GGgrandfather is not one of the named photos....maybe he is one of the unnamed. I grew up in Manilla, Iowa and have a great interest in the Civil War. Hope to hear back from you!
