He received an appointment to West Point, entered the Civil War, and served in the U.S. Cavalry with Sheridan. He remained in the cavalry during the post-war years and served in Texas possibly protecting Freedmen's Bureau workers. I think he died in 1867 - possibly of cholera. Was he married? Did he have children who survived him. Will exchange information. Thank you. Re: 20th Iowa Vols. From: Peter Hesse CommentsI am the great-great Grandson of Sgt. William P Hewes of Co. "C". I am interested in finding out more about about the 20th and specifically Co. "C". I have his war diary for 1865 which also contains a list of comrades at arms. Re: McKean Brothers 2nd Infantry and 2nd CalveryFrom: [email protected] CommentsI am very interested in the 2nd Iowa Infantry and have written newspapers articles about them. If you would like, I could look them up in the Roster of the Rebellion for you. The 2nd Iowa had quite a history. Last changed: January 12, 2002 |
