A friend who is an historian obtained a soldier's letter describing the heroic death of a Civil War officer we now know to be Captain Jonathan S. Slaymaker (2nd Iowa Inf., Co. C) during the battle of Fort Donelson, TN 2/15/62. He is not a genealogist, but thinking family might be interested, wants to share the contents of the letter with Slaymaker's descendents.
