I found out that there are many Haarsma-branches who have (so far) no relation. There are also many Haarsma-researchers. I met some six or seven of them in the Netherlands. So far the best explanation of the name is that is short for the longer name "Haringsma" or "Harigsma" that could mean "from Harich". Harich is a very small village near the a bit less small village of Balk in the south of the province of Friesland in the Netherlands. If all the members of the Haarsma-families come from Harich, there must be a connection. And that is what I am looking for. I found some Haarsma families that went to the USA (Iowa, Orange City) in about 1895. My question: Does anyone knows of any Haarsma's in their research, any more information about the below mentioned family, especially about their hirtsory in the years before their emigration to the New World, and about what happened to them after they arrived. Where did they embark (I am trying to find the passengerslist, but don't know the name of the ship nor the harbour where their travel began), where did they arrived, what happened to them then and so on.
