1849 Group from Cedar RapidsFrom: Lance Beeson www.lbeeson.cc.ca.us CommentsI am seeking any registry of a Gold Rush train that left Cedar Rapids in 1849. My great-great-uncle Samuel Ashton Curless died in January of 1850 in California, according to the Family Bible. Almost all of the family left for California in the succeeding years, except John Morgain Curless, who stayed there. There is one book about Iowa Gold Rushers by Lorch that I have seen. It only states that about 50 men left Cedar Rapids that year. Also, we have a promissory note dated October 29, '49 when SA Curless promised to pay three men a debt. Their surnames were NEWTON, HARRYMAN AND DEMAIS (?). Does this ring a bell with any of you? Thanks, Lance Beeson. In case any of you are interested, we have a ton of info about the Curless family. They were only in Iowa for a short time except John, mentioned above, but were in Cedar Rapids from about 1840-1859. st vincent's hospitalFrom: kc Commentsam looking for information on this hospital .was around approximatly 40 years ago . any info would be greatly appreciated.
