SHREVES - CARLYLE FAMILIESFrom: Gerald R. Fecht CommentsCalifornia professor seeks information on Orient, Iowa families Shreves, Carlyle and Smith. [email protected] Oskaloosa-Mahaska Co. need research help...From: Carol Anderson CommentsI need help on my family research...my great-great grandmother Elizabeth (Annie) Hauer Martin died in the mid 1870's. She married James Martin 6-6-1866. On the census it listed her birthday as 1848 in Penn. They had three children. James left Elizabeth and his children and ran off to marry another woman. My great grandmother was about 3 and she could remember crying and begging him not to leave. It is said her mother died of a broken heart. That's all we know of her. Her mother's name was Susan and she was in the household during the 1870 census. It is said she was Penn. Dutch and spoke with phrases like "thee" and "thou". I would like to find someone to help me find any links or info on Elizabeth Martin. Apparently one of the cemetaries she may have been buried at was washed out. I would like to have someone help my check for an old obit or something tangible. Thank-you very much for any advise!
