CUMMINGS & BATES in Poweshiek Co. in 1860s OnFrom: Andrea Crowell, "[email protected]" CommentsI'm searching for any information on my ancestors who lived in Poweshiek Co. in the mid-1800s and would appreciate any help! Betsey Hatch Cummings & Bradish Cummings were living in Brooklyn, Iowa, by the 1860s, along with his sons from a previous marriage Joseph Sargent Cummings and Henry Cummings. Family names include: Charles, Maria, George, Frank, Minnie, Fred, Ovra, Fanny, Eliza, Edith, Dora, Maggie, and Clarence. My great-great grandmother Almira Hatch Cummings, daughter of Betey & Bradish, married from Booklyn to Norman Francis Bates in 1864. Norman was born in Malcolm and was awarded the Medal of Honor while serving in the 4th Iowa Cavalry, Co. E. Norman and Almira's children were born in Malcolm: my great- grandfather Eugene Sylvester Bates (1868-1941) and siblings Gertrude A. and Norma Francis. Related lines incude Meigs, McDowell, Knappmann, Moreland (possibly first name) and Simmons.
