This would be in the year 1864. I know that gg grandpa Thomas is buried in Epworth cemetery but we don't know what happened to Allard. It is said that he went into a cattle business with someone there. Does any one know of them? Thomas ran a gun shop there in Epworth and he also made guns. He was a Sharpshooter during the Civil War. He left Wilkes Barre, Pa. sometime between 1840 and 1850 for Iowa. He most likely had other family with him including a James Hancock and a Mary Hancock. John left Iowa again sometime around 1853 for California. It is thought that he left other relatives behind. Marion history reports he went via Panama, which was not true. His wife Frences and their son Socrates jr went this way. Tryon State Park in Portland is the original land track of Socrates.
