Iowa 23rd volunteer infantryFrom: [email protected] CommentsMy ancestor Charles Dudley Person served with the Iowa 23rd whose home was Vandalia Jasper County served with Company "G" enlisted June 15th mustered August 22, 1862 promoted to 2nd Sergeant Nov 1,1863 mustered out July 26 1865 at Harrisburg, Texas. Anyone that has any information about my ancestor would be most welcome. Our family did not keep tract of the old letters or even a picture of C.D. Person. Any diaries about the 23rd that a person would would be most welcome. I am trying to find what time he moved to Iowa from Meigs County, Ohio. Alice M BECKWITH ABT 1874, lived in Franklin and Wright counties IA also. 11 children, William H (m. a BANGE), Horace, Clarence, Joseph, Grant, Charlie, Clara, Cora (m. a Spears), Lena (Paulina, m. a Standish), Bessie, Marie. Alice died 8 Dec 1892 less than two mo's after giving birth to Marie on 20 Oct 1892. Joseph d. 8 Feb 1906 Galt IA living with a daughter after having suffered a paralytic stroke some 3 years earlier. Obit from Dows library didn't give name of that daughter, only mentioned that all 11 children were there to attend the funeral including Miss Carrie, Whitten, IA and Miss Marie (my Grandmother) from Marshalltown. Any help toward establishing parentage for Joseph and other information appreciated. Joseph, William H, Mattie or Matie and Alice all buried at Dows, Mount Hope Cemetery, Franklin County, IA.
