34th Iowa Infantry

A multiple monument is located at Iowa Circle, former park property in the City of Vicksburg, which is south of Interstate 20 and modern Iowa Avenue. The bronze unit tablet is missing, presumed stolen. This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. William Vandever's 1st Brigade of Maj. Gen. Francis J. Herron's unattached Division, Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's Army of the Tennessee and was commanded by Col. George H. Clark.

Iron tablet located at Navy Circle on South Washington Street. A detail of the 34th Iowa under the command of Acting Master J. Frank Reed of the gunboat Benton served two 42-pdr. rifled guns in "Battery Benton" from the morning of 1 July 1863 until the end of the siege. A shell from the Confederate mortar in South Fort exploded in the battery on 1 July 1863 killing 1 & badly wounding 4 enlisted men of the 34th Iowa Infantry detail.
