1861

Oct. 1861 Cos. "A," "B" and "C" detached, by order of General Fremont and sent to Fort Randall, Dakota Territory.
Nov. 6, 1861 14th Regiment organized at Davenport, Iowa.
Dec. 1861 14th Regiment assigned to the Department of the Missouri.

1862

Feb. 1862 14th Regiment assigned to the 4th Brigade, 2nd Division, District of Cairo.
Feb. 1862 14th Regiment assigned to the 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, District of West Tennessee and Army of the Tennessee.
Feb. 12-16 Investment of Fort Donelson.
Feb. 16 Capture of Fort Donelson.
Mar. 2-14 Moved to Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee.
Apr. 6-7 Battle of Shiloh, Tennessee. Held Union center at "Hornet's Nest" and most of the regiment was captured.
Apr. 29-May 30 Those not captured assigned to Union Brigade and participated in the advance on and siege of Corinth, Mississippi.
May 24, 1862 Portion of 14th Iowa soldiers captured at Shiloh are paroled.
May 31-Jun. 13 14th Iowa (Union Brigade), pursuit to Booneville, Mississippi. Duty at Corinth, Mississippi till August.
Jul. 1862 Regiment officially assigned to the Union Brigade, 2nd Division, District of Corinth, Mississippi.
Aug. 1862 14th Iowa (Union Brigade) at Danville, Mississippi, till October.
Sep. 18, 1862 At Fort Randall, Dakota Territory, Cos. A, B, C permanently detached; redesignated 41st Iowa Infantry Regiment.
Oct. 3-4 14th Iowa (Union Brigade), Battle of Corinth, Mississippi.
Oct. 5-12 14th Iowa (Union Brigade), Pursuit to Ripley, Mississippi.
Oct. 12, 1862 Remainder of 14th Iowa soldiers captured at Shiloh are paroled.
Nov. 1862 14th Iowa (Union Brigade) assigned to the 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, District of Corinth, 13 Corps, Department of the Tennessee.
Nov. 19, 1862 All 14th Iowa Paroled Prisoners officially exchanged.
Dec. 1862 14th Iowa Regiment (less Union Brigade) at Davenport, Iowa.
Dec. 18 1862 14th Iowa (Union Brigade) departs Corinth. While en route participated in the defense of Jackson, Tenn., December 20, 1862, to January 4, 1863.

1863

Jan. 1863 14th Regiment assigned to the District of St. Louis, Missouri, Department of the Missouri.
Jan. 7, 1863 14th Iowa (Union Brigade) arrived at Davenport. Reorganizing Regiment at Davenport, Iowa, and at St. Louis, Mo., till April.
Apr. 1863 14th Regiment assigned to Cairo, Illinois, District of Columbus, Kentucky, 6th Division., 16th Corps, Tennessee.
Apr. 10, 1863 Moved to Cairo, IIIinois; on duty there till January, 1864.

1864

Jan. 1864 14th Regiment assigned to the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 16th Corps, Tennessee.
Feb. 3-Mar. 5 Meridian Campaign.
Feb. 14-15 At Meridian, Mississippi.
Feb. 15-17 At Marion, Mississippi.
Feb. 28. At Canton, Mississippi. Moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Mar. 10-May 22 Red River Campaign.
Mar. 14 Battle of Fort De Russy, Louisiana.
Mar. 16 Occupation of Alexandria, Louisiana.
Apr. 9 Battle of Pleasant Hill, Louisiana.
Apr. 22-24 Skirmish at Cloutiersville and Cane River Crossing, Louisiana.
Apr. 27-May 13 At Alexandria, Louisiana.
May 5-7 At Moore's Plantation, Louisiana.
May 7 Bayou Boeuf, Louisiana.
May 12 Bayou La Mourie, Louisiana.
May 13-20 Retreat to Morganza, Louisiana.
May 16 At Mansura, Louisiana.
May 18-19 Engagement at Yellow Bayou, Louisiana.
May 20-Jun. 10 Moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi, then to Memphis, Tennessee.
Jun. 6-7 Engagement at Lake Chicot, Arkansas.
Jul. 5-21 Gen. Smith's Expedition to Tupelo, Mississippi.
Jul. 11 At Pontotoc.
Jul. 13 Camargo's Cross Roads, near Harrisburg,.
Jul. 14-15 Battle of Tupelo, Mississippi.
Jul. 15 Engagement at Old Town Creek, Mississippi.
Aug. 1-30 Gen. Smith's Expedition to Oxford, Mississippi.
Aug. 7-9 Tallahatchie River.
Aug. 12 At Abbeville and Oxford, Mississippi.
Aug. 23 At Abbeville.
Sep. 1-7 Gen. Mower's Expedition up White River to Duvall's Bluff.
Sep. 17-Oct. 25 March through Arkansas and Missouri in pursuit of Gen. Price's Confederate Army.
Sep. 26 Four companies sent to Pilot Knob, Missouri, and participated in actions at Ironton, Shut in Gap and Arcadia.
Sep. 26-27 Engagement at Fort Davidson, Pilot Knob, Missouri.
Sep. 28-29 Leesburg or Harrison.
Nov. 2, 1864 Regiment assembled at St. Louis, Missouri.
Nov. 16, 1864 Old members mustered out; veterans and recruits consolidated into three Companies (A, B and C) and assigned to duty at Springfield, Ill. Redesignated 14th Residuary Battalion.
Nov. 1864. Stationed at Springfield, Illinois on provost duties.

1865

Aug. 8, 1865 14th Iowa Residuary Battalion Veterans and Recruits mustered out at Davenport, Iowa.
Aug. 9, 1865 The 14th Regiment of Iowa Volunteer Infantry heads for home. In almost four years of service, the regiment lost 5 Officers and 59 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded, and 1 Officer and 138 Enlisted men from disease. Total 203.

Post-war

1882 First Sergeant Valentine L. Spawr, Co. C, 14th Iowa dies in Iroquois County, Illinois at the age of 47.
Apr. 23, 1887 Third Sergeant Peter Wilson, Co. G, 14th Iowa dies in Traer, Iowa of pneumonia at the age of 51.
Apr. 15, 1901 Chaplain (Captain) Frederick F. Kiner, 14th Iowa dies in Marshalltown, Iowa at the age of 68.

1934

Jan. 15, 1934 2nd Corporal Benjamin Randall Smutz, Co. H, 14th Iowa, dies of old age at 95 in Hillsboro, Iowa. He was the last surviving member of the 14th Iowa Regiment.
